For National Safety Month this June, Beta Engineering is spotlighting its strong safety record and the continued steps we’re taking to keep our clients, subcontractor partners, and employees safe.

Beta has received multiple commendations for jobsite safety from both electric utility and renewable developer clients through direct feedback and post-project surveys.

“If clients see the level of quality and safety—if they see that you’re invested in them as a customer—that’s when you’ve got a good partnership,” says Ross Twidwell, EVP of Construction Management at Beta Engineering.

The Beta team has successfully completed over 2 million work hours without a single lost time incident. Over the past two years, we have also maintained zero OSHA recordable incidents, a testament to our unwavering commitment to safety. Our Experience Modification Rate (EMR) currently stands at 0.64—over 30% lower than the industry average—highlighting our proactive safety culture and disciplined risk management approach.

That record is no accident. In 2024 and into 2025, Beta’s frontline construction management and safety teams implemented new safety plans and initiatives aimed at raising awareness and reinforcing best practices across every site. These include weekly company-wide safety sessions, targeted jobsite walkthroughs, and expanded opportunities for ongoing education and certifications.

Several team members also recently earned their Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) certifications—bringing even deeper expertise to Beta’s project sites.

“We’ve focused on building safety into every layer of our operations,” said Erik Lee, Safety Manager at Beta Engineering. “That includes how we plan jobs, how we train crews, and how we show up on site. Weekly safety sessions, stronger site inspections, and ongoing certifications have helped keep safety top of mind across Beta. For our clients, that means fewer incidents, fewer delays, and greater confidence that we’re going to deliver without cutting corners.”

What Is EMR?

EMR (Experience Modification Rate) is a standardized safety metric based on a company’s workers’ compensation claims history. Insurance carriers use it as a signal of risk and reliability. An EMR of 1.0 represents the industry average. Lower numbers indicate a better-than-average safety record.
