GRAPEVINE, TX – As America prepared to celebrate its 250th anniversary, Beta Engineering joined utility professionals at the 2026 Southeastern Electric Exchange (S.E.E.) Conference to celebrate and innovate with the people who power America today—and build the grid for the future.
Throughout the conference week, Beta connected with utility leaders from across the country to discuss the future of substations, share project experience, and explore solutions for meeting growing demand. The conference also featured technical sessions on topics including workforce development, SF₆ alternatives, digital twins, automated inspections, data center growth, and brownfield substation design.
One of the biggest highlights of this year's conference happened outside the convention center.

In partnership with the City of Denton, Beta hosted an exclusive tour of Denton's hidden GIS substation—the innovative project featured on the May cover of T&D World. Conference attendees had the opportunity to step inside the 138/13.2kV facility, learn how it doubled power capacity for one of North Texas' fastest-growing communities, and see how the storefront architectural façade blends seamlessly into the surrounding neighborhood.
Like many utilities that are new to GIS, Denton had plenty of questions during the planning process. By opening its doors during S.E.E., the city gave other utilities the opportunity to see GIS technology firsthand, ask practical questions, and learn from a real-world project designed to meet growing demand in a space-constrained urban environment.

Want to learn more? Read the T&D World cover story on Denton's hidden GIS substation, or if you couldn't make the tour, book a virtual 3D walkthrough to explore the project from anywhere.
The discussions didn't stop at the tour. Throughout the week at Beta’s booth, attendees also explored Beta's Factory-Built Substation solution with a LEGO display that demonstrated how modular construction can improve schedule certainty, reduce time on site, and simplify project execution.
As always, one of the greatest values of S.E.E. was the opportunity to connect with utility professionals who openly share lessons learned, innovative ideas, and practical experience. Those conversations continue to drive the collaboration needed to build a stronger, more reliable electric grid.
The Southeastern Electric Exchange (S.E.E.) is a non-profit association of investor-owned electric utility companies across the South, Midwest, and Northeast U.S. The organization provides training, workshops, seminars, and an annual conference and tradeshow to share technical knowledge and lessons learned.
The S.E.E. conference offers valuable sessions for both substation engineers and electric utility decision-makers. The conference’s smaller size compared to other top electric utility shows, such as IEEE PES T&D, RE+, and Cleanpower, provides opportunities for productive networking and deep conversations where smart, passionate industry leaders can gather to share experience, technical knowledge, and best practices.
Beta Engineering is a substation EPC company headquartered in Pineville, La., with an office in San Diego. For more than 50 years, utilities, renewable developers, and other power delivery companies have trusted Beta Engineering to help design and build the substations and switchyards that keep their systems reliable and ready for what’s next.
Tell us what challenges you’re facing. Let’s solve them together.
