Beta Engineers Participate in a Q&A for Engineers Week

February 23, 2021

February 21-27 is Engineers Week, and over the next few days, Beta Engineering will be featuring several of our engineers in a multi-part interview series that offers engineers’ perspectives on work, education and more.

Today’s interviewee is David Chatelain. David is a licensed civil engineer with more than seven years of experience in the high voltage power industry.

Q: In a sentence or two, how would you describe what you enjoy about your job?

David Chatelain: I like seeing how much thought goes into all of the things so many others take for granted (such as foundations and transmission lines).

Q: What was the most valuable non-engineering class you took in college, and why?

DC: Technical presentations. It helped me to be able to effectively relay information and to be more comfortable doing so.

Q: What phrase or word has never been the same since you became an engineer?

DC: Cement (don't confuse it with "concrete").

What Is Engineers Week?

Engineers Week is an annual event that the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) established in 1951 to promote interest in STEM careers and encourage the growth of a diverse, well-educated engineering workforce.
