PINEVILLE, LA / SAN DIEGO— What began as a small, local team answering a critical need has grown into a leading engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) company. Founded in 1975 by Crest Industries, Beta Engineering has spent five decades helping power America’s communities—providing the expertise, innovation, and grit that utilities rely on to meet demand and build for the future. From its Central Louisiana roots to its now nationwide footprint, Beta has helped shape the U.S. energy sector, delivering groundbreaking solutions and even a few industry “firsts.”
Beta was founded to answer a need—to help utilities build a better, more reliable power grid. From that point on, roughly 10 employees set out with a clear purpose, and they grew into today’s nearly 200-person team. Beta’s workforce spans the country, with teammates based at its Pineville, La, headquarters, its San Diego office, and remotely across the U.S.
The heart of Beta’s success and growth has always been its team, whose expertise, hard work and collaboration continue to drive progress. Hear more from the people who’ve made it all possible.
As the energy industry evolved, so did Beta—growing from a design-only firm into a full-service EPC partner trusted to tackle some of the toughest utility challenges. From designing and building the nation's first underground gas-insulated substation to executing a massive 500/230kV substation project in rugged mountainous terrain that required over a million cubic yards of earthwork, Beta’s team never shied from challenges—it embraced them. This commitment to problem-solving is what's led to one-of-a-kind solutions that continue to help utilities power their growing communities with confidence.
In recent years, Beta has expanded its impact on the energy transition—interconnecting over 6,000 MW of renewable energy and developing sustainable strategies that reduce environmental impact. Through innovative solutions like Agile by Beta® Factory-Built Substations, the company is helping utilities connect clean energy to the grid faster, safer and with more schedule certainty.
As Beta celebrates its 50th anniversary, it remains grounded in the values that sparked its beginning—supporting utilities, building strong partnerships, and investing in its people and communities. Looking ahead, Beta is committed to continuing its legacy with the same integrity, grit and determination that have defined the last five decades, knowing that together, we can power a brighter future.
To mark this milestone year, Beta has launched a 50th anniversary webpage that highlights key projects, employee stories, and the company’s journey—updated each month by the decade. Visit www.betaengineering.com/50-years to explore the history and people behind your power.
