When a global renewable energy developer began planning one of its largest solar projects in the United States, they turned to Beta Engineering for deep interconnection expertise and trusted utility relationships. Thanks to the existing experience Beta had with the interconnecting utility, the developer had confidence that Beta could navigate the utility’s standards, manage risk, and deliver both speed and quality.
The result: two successful, tightly coordinated EPC projects in Central Louisiana that support the interconnection of a 125MW solar farm—one of the region’s first utility-scale solar projects. The two-pronged approach included a factory-built collector substation and a conventional stick-built switchyard, both delivered under a tight timeline.
The 138/34.5kV collector substation leveraged the Agile by Beta® Factory-Built approach. By shifting substation construction from the field to a managed factory environment, Agile brings greater schedule certainty, quality control, and fewer on-site safety risks. For renewable developers operating on tight deadlines and limited resources, this fast-tracked approach can be a significant competitive advantage.
Take a closer look at how trust, partnership, and Agile by Beta® helped bring this milestone project to life.
Beta also delivered, a 138kV switchyard, using the conventional stick-built approach. Overseeing both projects under a single EPC partner streamlined communication, synchronized energization milestones, and minimized risk for the developer.
Close coordination with the interconnecting utility was key to success. Beta’s longstanding relationship with the utility gave the developer confidence and ensured full alignment with local standards and requirements.
As one of the first utility-scale solar projects in the region—and one of the developer’s largest solar parks in the U.S.—this effort marked a major milestone for renewable energy growth. Beta’s ability to combine cutting-edge Factory-Built solutions with conventional EPC execution helped the customer establish a stronger foothold in the U.S. market while supporting the transition to a more resilient, renewably-powered grid.
