Ross Twidwell, Beta’s VP of Civil Engineering, recently participated in two IEEE subcommittee meetings for design guide standards. Hosted by the Bonneville Power Administration, the IEEE 693 and IEEE 1527 subcommittees met in Portland, Oregon in early June.

The IEEE 1527 is a guide that covers the seismic design of flexible buswork. The group met to review comments on the current revision of this document and to bring resolution to open items.

The IEEE 693 is a guide that covers the seismic design of substations. The group sought to bring closure to outstanding technical comments regarding the latest draft of the document. The current edition of the guide was published in 2005, and an updated version of the standards will soon be published.

The purpose of these standards is to ensure that high voltage substations and equipment are designed to withstand seismic hazards. Beta is pleased to assist with these important industry initiatives.

Beta Engineering has been exceeding customer expectations on turnkey high voltage substation construction projects for four decades.
