Ross Twidwell, Beta’s VP of Civil Engineering, recently participated in the second subcommittee meeting for the ASCE 113 Substation Structure Design Guide rewrite. This effort involves the first revision of the essential guide that serves as a baseline for designing the type of structures used in substations and switchyards.
The guide has been out for several years, and while it has received good reviews, there are numerous additions and updates that are necessary.
The committee meeting included extensive open discussion and allowed participants to hear different perspectives on how the guide is being used by utilities, the manufacturing industry and the consulting world. There are many new goals to be accomplished over the next few years before the new revision can be finalized and published. Beta is pleased to be part of this important industry initiative.
